Indian PM appeals for calm, vows to protect women
Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh has sought to reach out to all concerned with an assurance that the government would make all possible efforts to ensure security and safety to all women in this country.
His comments come a week after the rape of a 23 year old woman in New Delhi and as unprecedented outpour of protests and anguish continue in the capital.
Dr. Singh's assurance came as an outraged nation continued its agitation demanding decisive steps to put an end to the culture of impunity towards violence directed against women.
Meanwhile an emotional father of the victim has appealed to the protesters to stop vandalism and help police in bringing the culprits to justice at the earliest.
According to the Press Trust of India he also appealed to the people to pray for his 23-year-old daughter, who is fighting for her life at a city hospital.
