Israeli attack on Gaza
Israeli air strikes on the Gaza strip continue to escalate, in response to rocket attacks by members of Palestinian group Hamas which controls the territory.
According to medical officials, at least 11 Palestinians have been killed and 100 wounded in the shelling.
The Israeli military launched its operation yesterday with the killing of a top Hamas commander.
This was followed by what Palestinians said were at least 60 Israeli air strikes.
Hospitals and medical centres across Gaza have been put on high alert after the initial strikes as Israel warned this is only the beginning.
The Israeli strikes are seen as the most intensive since the 2008-09 Gaza War.
To find out why the current offensive has taken on this intensity, 938LIVE's Mubin Saadat spoke to Professor Michael Hudson, Director of the Middle East Institute at the National University of Singapore.
