Japan logs record trade deficit in 2012
Japanese exports fell nearly 6 percent in December, from a year earlier, bringing the country into a record trade deficit for the whole of 2012.
Data by the Finance Ministry showed that it was the seventh straight month of declines.
Exports to China dropped about 16 percent.
China is the top destination for Japanese shipments.
Imports rose nearly 2 percent, from a year earlier.
This resulted in a trade deficit of over US$7 billion last month.
