Japan One Step Closer to Brazil

In regional football, 

Japan took a huge step towards qualifying for the 2014 World Cup finals after a 2-1 win in Oman last night. 

Shinji Okazaki scored the late winner in Group B to give his side an 8 point lead over Australia at the top of the table. 

Japan went ahead early through Hiroshi Kiyotake but Oman equalized through an Ahmed Mubarak's free kick on 77 minutes. 

But Stuttgart midfielder Okazaki bundled in the decisive goal a minute before time. 

With the win, Japan now need just 2 more points with 3 games to play to ensure their 5th straight appearance in a World Cup final. 

Elsewhere, 

Iraq also struck in the dying minutes to beat Jordan 1-nil. 

The win leaves them on 5 points, level with Oman and Australia. 

Over in Group A, 

Qatar beat Lebanon 1-nil.
