Park Geun-Hye has been sworn in as South Korea's first female president.

She took the oath of office at an inauguration ceremony attended by 70,000 people in front of the National Assembly building in Seoul.

Ms Park's inauguration speech focused on job creation, welfare expansion and national defence

She also described North Korea's nuclear test as a threat to the survival of Korean people

The 61-year-old had campaigned on a promise of greater engagement with Pyongyang

Observers say her hands have been tied by the international outcry over the North's nuclear test earlier this month

Ms Park is taking office a little more than 50 years after her father seized power in a military coup.
