Newcastle return to winning ways after 3-0 victory over Wigan

In English Premier League football action, 

Demba Ba helped Newcastle United end a sequence of 4 straight losses, by grabbing 2 goals in a 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic this morning. 

At St James Park, Ba put the Magpies in front with a well-taken penalty. 

That was after Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa was sent off for bringing down Papiss Cisse just inside the box in the 12th minute.

The home team made it 2-0, nine minutes later when Ba pounced on the rebound to score from close range. 

And substitute Gael Bigirimana added a 3rd goal in the 71st minute. 

With the win, Newcastle stayed 14th in the table and 3 points ahead of 16th ranked Wigan. 


In regional sports news, 

And Team Singapore won its 2nd straight game in the Netball Nations Cup yesterday. 

At the Toa Payoh Sports Hall, the Republic thrashed Ireland 54-34. 

With the victory, Singapore move to the top of the table alongside Tanzania, with 2 wins out of 2. 

The Tanzanians hammered Malaysia 61-36, while Sri Lanka beat Namibia 69-65 for their 1st win of the tournament.

Meanwhile, 

Singapore's newly crowned Bowling world champion Shayna Ng returned home to a heroes' welcome yesterday. 

3 nights ago, the 23 year old became the 2nd Singaporean in history to win the coveted AMF World Cup in Poland. 

More than a hundred supporters greeted Shayna at Changi Airport yesterday. 

And the 2010 Asian Games Gold medallist has now set her sights on the 2013 World Championships.
