
The Singapore Youth Festival, or SYF, has been renamed the Singapore Youth Celebrations.
This name change, and the restructuring of the judging criteria for its inter-school performing arts presentations, is aimed at removing the element of competition and hence reducing the stress of participants.
But is competition a bad thing to begin with? And in the absence of a level playing field, how should drama presentations be assessed?
