Severe storms hit UK; widespread floods, at least two dead

At least two people have died after rainstorms and floods hit the southern part of Britain over the weekend.

A 21-year-old woman was killed by a falling tree in Exeter and a man died in the county of Cambridgeshire when his car crashed into a swollen river.

In the most south-western county, Cornwall, people had to briefly evacuate their homes as flood waters and torrential rain battered villages.

Major highways and roads in the area were closed due to the flooding and several train services were cancelled.

One resident affected by the floods said the waters kept gushing in.

Authorities said more than 800 homes have been flooded across England and Wales since the bad weather began on Wednesday.
