Protest against the Population White Paper takes place at Speakers' Corner

A protest against the government's White Paper on Population organised by was held this evening at the Speakers' Corner in Hong Lim Park.

12 speakers took the stage to express their views - with most calling for more consultation with the public.

Members of opposition parties and young Singaporeans were among the speakers who shared what they thought were the key issues raised in the White Paper.

Organisers said about five thousand people were present.

The protest was held a week after Parliament endorsed an amended motion on the White Paper after a five-day debate.

The amendments ensure that the 6.9 million population figure in 2030 is not a target and the projection is for infrastructure planning.
