Boys' Brigade delivers gifts to over 40,000 beneficiaries

The Boys' Brigade will be bringing Christmas cheer to a record number of 40,691 beneficiaries through their Share-a-Gift project this year.

This smashes last year's record by some 10,000 beneficiaries.

And of these, about three in four will receive at least one hamper of household items.

The hamper consists 13 items: a 5kg bag of rice, beverage drinks, biscuits, cooking oil, instant noodles, seasonings and canned food.

This comes under the General Wish category.

And then, there's the Specific Wish category - where 8,135 beneficiaries have asked for certain specific items.

Boys' Brigade Executive Director Desmond Koh says the most common requests for the elderly are health products, furniture and sports shoes.

And among children, the most popular gifts are school bags and school shoes.

These are all donated by members of the public, in money or in kind.

The collection drive ends today but members of the public can still contribute by purchasing gift hampers on NTUC FairPrice's online portal which will be open till the end of the year.

The retail giant is a long-time contributor to the Share-a-Gift project.
