First molecular test kit for kidney cancer developed by researchers

A team of researchers and doctors in Singapore has developed the first molecular test kit that can predict treatment and survival outcomes in kidney cancer patients.

The team comprises members from the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, Singapore General Hospital, and the National Cancer Centre Singapore.

The kit will help doctors prescribe the right treatment for kidney cancer patients based on their tumour profile.

The team used tissue samples from about 280 clear cell renal cell carcinoma, or CCRCC patients and designed a test that was able to group patients based on survival and treatment outcomes.

It's one of the first tests that can predict outcomes of cancer therapy.
