Anglo-Chinese School Independent has chartered five MRT trains for rugby event
Anglo-Chinese School Independent has chartered five MRT trains to transport its students and well-wishers to the National School "C" Division Rugby Finals at the Singapore Sports Hub tomorrow.
It's the first National Schools Sports Final to take place at the new stadium, and the school wanted a way to commemorate the event.
The chartered trains will travel non-stop from One-North station to Stadium MRT station at seven minute intervals.
SMRT says the chartered trains will run between normal services, and strictly during off-peak hours.
It assures passengers that service levels will not be compromised.
More than 3,000 students from Anglo Chinese School Independent, their teachers, parents and Alumni members are expected to attend the match, which kicks off at 4pm.
A school spokesman says it would have taken 80 buses to get everyone to the venue, and renting the trains costs about the same.
The clash against the reigning champions from Saint Andrews Secondary School is scheduled to start at 4pm.
ACS Independent Principal Winston Hodge says that he wants to make tomorrow's rugby match an event to remember.
"Our hope is that many years from now, when our students are themselves parents, we hope that they will bring their own children to the Sports Hub and speak of that first time they stepped into that stadium as part of our school family. And that's what memory-making and having shared memories is all about."
