All Pioneers can enjoy CHAS subsidies for medical and dental care at participating General Practitioner and dental clinics from 1 September 2014

From today, all Pioneers, regardless of income or housing type, will be able to enjoy Community Health Assist Scheme subsidies for medical and dental care at participating General Practitioner and dental clinics.

Every Pioneer should have received his or her Pioneer Generation card in the post by now.

Senior Minister of State for Health, Dr Amy Khor says that when it comes to getting medical and dental care at participating clinics, the Pioneer Generation card offers a bigger discount than the orange or blue health assist card.

"Once they show their PG card to the CHAS clinic they will be able to get special CHAS subsidies which is even higher than that for the blue tier. If the pioneer is assessed by the doctor at the CHAS clinic to require specialist care, they will be referred by the CHAS clinic to our Specialist Outpatient Clinic in the public hospital as a subsidised patient."

Also from today, there will be more subsidies for lower to middle income Singaporeans, particularly for outpatient care at specialist outpatient clinics at public hospitals.

"Lower to middle income Singaporeans will be able to get higher subsidies of 70 to 60% respectively at the Specialist Outpatient Clinic in our public hospitals if they are subsidised patients. For pioneers, they will then get additional 50% off this subsidised outpatient bills, in addtion to the enhanced subsidies that lower to middle income Singaporeans will get. The group of lower to middle income Singaporeans that will be able to benefit from the higher subsidies at the SOCs, they will also get higher subsidies for subsidised drugs at the SOCs and polyclinics from next year."

However, Pioneers from the low and middle income group will need the blue or orange Health Assist card if they want to enjoy even higher subsidies at Specialist Outpatient Clinics.

That's because those with the blue or orange cards would have been means-tested to determine their eligibility.

With Health Assist Blue Card, a Pioneer can enjoy up to 85% subsidies for Specialist Outpatient Clinic treatments, instead of just a 50% discount and an additional 50% off with the Pioneer Generation Card.

From the 1st of January next year, Pioneers will also benefit from an additional 50% off for subsidised medication at the polyclinics and subsidised Specialist Outpatient Clinics.

The additional Specialist Outpatient Clinics and Pioneer Generation subsidies are not applicable to private services.
