Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music

Founded as part of a larger initiative to foster creativity via arts education for the people of Singapore, the establishment of the Singapore Conservatory of Music marks a major milestone in the development of Singapore as a global city for the arts. It is envisaged to be a focal point of music education, exchange and activities not only for Singapore but also for the Asia-Pacific region. In August 2003, the Singapore Conservatory was renamed the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. The new name is in honour of Miss Yong Siew Toh, a music teacher and daughter of the late Dr Yong Loo Lin, whose family donated a gift of S$25 million to the Conservatory. Miss Yong passed away in 2000. In helping and celebrating the best of Asia's musical talent, Yong Siew Toh's name, her love of music and her desire to give to others will live on.
