Superstar Asia Challenge 2013

Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka singers compete in inaugural Superstar Asia Challenge!

Popular Vasantham artistes Kaushik Iyer and Suthasini Rajenderan may have won the most coveted Tamil singing competitions on Vasantham but come Friday, they will vie for the title of Asia’s best singers. Besides Singapore, four established singers from Malaysia and Sri Lanka will be vying for the prestigious title, “The Superstar of Asia” and a grand cash prize of $20,000 for their country. The Superstar Asia Challenge will be held this Friday, 15 March at 9pm at the MediaCorp TV Theatre and will be televised LIVE on Vasantham.

Superstar Asia Challenge is a regional singing competition organized by Vasantham channel in collaboration with Astro Vaanavil channel from Malaysia and Independent Television Network from Sri Lanka. The much anticipated two hour competition will also be telecast in both Malaysia and Sri Lanka at a later date.

Dr Chitra Rajaram, Senior Vice President of Vasantham says, “After the resounding success of regional dance competition Dhool vs Aattam 100 Vagai in 2011, Vasantham is delighted to have taken the next step to provide a competition platform for our local singers at the regional stage. We are pleased to embark on yet another exciting collaboration with Astro Malaysia and for the first time ever join hands with Independent Television Network from Sri Lanka."

“The telecast of this competition in Malaysia and Sri Lanka will widen the Vasantham’s reach to the viewers beyond the shores of Singapore. These collaborations are in line with our strategy in partnering regional broadcasters as it expands our footprint in the pan-Asian sphere and gives great opportunities for our artistes and business partners to grow their potential in the international platform.” Dr Chitra adds.

Each country will be sending in two of their best vocal talents for this competition. Singapore will be represented by Yaar Antha Star 2007 Youth Idol champion, Kaushik Iyer and Vasantham Star 2011 Indian Idol Champion, Suthasini Rajenderan. They will face-off with Shanthesh and Chaarumathe from Malaysia and Prashanthini and Jeya Ragavan from Sri Lanka. The singers will compete in three challenging rounds consisting of solo, duet and composition categories.

The judges’ panel of the competition will also take on a regional flavor, with each country having a representative. Three renowned judges, Mohammed Rafee from Singapore, Elangkovan Alagoo from Malaysia and Dr. Arunthathy Sri Ranganathan from Sri Lanka will come together to crown the region’s most talented singers this Friday.
