SA2014: Rebecca Lim up for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress

The actress continues to enjoy her meteoric rise to stardom with double nominations in the Star Awards 20's major acting categories

“Huh!!!! OMG!” read Rebecca Lim’s reply to our text message informing her of her double nomination – Best Actress for Sudden and Best Supporting Actress for The Dream Makers – at the 2014 Star Awards, which is in its 20th instalment this year.

In our phone interview, the actress said she was having lunch at her grandparents’ place and “literally screamed” when she got the news.

“I’m very, very happy – to be nominated alongside veteran actresses in both categories is a huge honour, especially since I’m the youngest among them,” she told us.

However, she’s careful not to get her hopes too high for either of them (or for Favourite Female Character, which she’s also up for). “All of the other nominees are so many levels above me, so my chances of winning are very slim… but we’ll see!”

The budding starlet nabbed her first Best Actress nomination last year for Unriddle 2, but lost to co-star Rui En, whom she’ll be competing with for the second time at the April 27 show (Rui En is nominated for The Dream Makers). The other noted leading ladies she’s pitted against are The Journey: A Voyage’s Chris Tong and The Dream Makers’ Chen Li Ping and Jeanette Aw.

“To be very honest, I think my roles in Sudden [as twin sisters Guo Weiqian and Huang Yixin], particularly as the younger sister, could’ve been executed better,” she lamented. “That said, of course I’m very blessed to be recognised, and playing two different characters is probably what drew people’s attention.”

Her Best Supporting Actress nod, courtesy of her portrayal of flirty, scantily-clad Lisa in The Dream Makers, is her first. “Even though I only had a supporting role, [shooting The Dream Makers] was one of my best experiences so far, and I’m proud to be part of a production that brought many people back to local TV.”

So will Becks be bringing along any lucky charms to ensure at least one win (or even an all-kill)? “I’ll be praying a lot. (laughs) And I just plan to show up looking nice – hopefully I won’t end up a ‘not’ in your fashion list – and have a lot of fun.”
